For once, a great weather forecast aligned with some time off and we decided on a short trip down the Caley Canal. We keep our Merry Fisher 805 at Inverness so a short trip is always possible. Headed over Monday evening and stayed on the boat in the marina on Monday night. Entered the canal around 1100, had to wait for the swing bridge at Muirton so took a stroll into town for lunch. Up through the locks by about 1430 and safely alongside at Dochgarroch after the lock by around 1600 - just about wine-o-clock!
We were able to get shore power but unfortunately the Oakwood restaurant is closed on Tuesdays so we cooked on board.
Set off Wednesday morning, through Tom bridge and into Loch Ness. Stopped at Drumnadrochit for lunch, picture stop at Urquhart Castle and alongside at Fort Augustus by around 1600. The pontoons filled up quickly, mostly with rental cruisers which provide endless entertainment value! Very nice dinner in the Bothy with a couple of beers finished off the day nicely.
Left Fort Augustus early-ish Thursday morning and were back alongside our berth in Inverness Marina by around 1730.
Perfect weather made a very enjoyable few days.
