Calcium deposits in fresh water plumbing

It seems we have calcium deposits in our fresh water system causing a partial blockage of supply to taps, loos and showers.

Is there a liquid we can treat the system with to 'eat' the calcium and clean the pipes?

some dilute acid will remove calcium carbonate deposits,

perhaps stick to a weak acid such as acetic acid in the form of vinegar but it will be slow acting and also being relatively dilute may need several treatments to remove all the deposits.

Alternatively an appliance descaler.

Or if the scaling is severe a strong acid such as hydrochloric, which is available as brick and masonry cleaner ( but check you chose one containing hydrochloric acid) and generally in more concentrated solutions.. Being a stronger acid it will react more quickly and if more concentrated as well will remove more scale at a time,

Descalers and brick cleaners will require thorough flushing and rinsing
