Cala d\'Or

Hi,

Anyone been to Cala D'Or? Whats it like? I am off there for a couple of weeks in June/July. Is there anywhere to hire a boat? Whats the fishing like? Any input and/or recommendations welcome.

Cheers.

Re: Cala d\'Or

We go every October and take an appartment overlooking the marina. great place to chill out and wander. Plenty of nice restaraunts all the way around the marina so try a differant one each evening. Marina full of nice mobo's lots of Germans, but then again Majorca has more Germans than spanish it seems. A few charter companys basd there plus large Fairline dealer. Its fun watching the pretty girls from Fairline each day washing down the boats under their command. Main part of Cala DOR now becoming a little naf but you will have good time at the marina area this is called Cala LLonga.

It's a bit cheap and tatty, like the rest of coastal brit-mad spain, chips and beans at every restaurant but the sun is very sunny. Nice coast especially to south. take a moblile phone in case of probs at sea - i think at the entrance to calador was where a weaver fish poisoned someone and they died cos nobody knew how to get hold of any help - the harbours have leaflets with the numbers

Re: Cala d\'Or

We went there in October and loved it.... I wish I could afford to put my boat there (£7000 a year yikes!!) - will just have to keep buying the lottery tickets! The Cala's are lovely, and Cala D'or isn't too bad itself either as its not too high rise or anything. To get to the marina head for Cala Llonga. THe little road train goes there!

If you can stretch to a skippered charter for a day or half day, then keep a lookout for "Tinkerbell" a Neptunus power boat in the marina at Cala Llonga! (The opposite side to the Sunseeker office!) Can well recommend a trip out on that with Steve & Tina! (Think it was about E50 per person for an afternoon trip along the coast, with tapas!), and is a way of doing it in style otherwise looking out for the golondrinos (trip boats) both Starfish and Dolphin do some good cheap trips if you want to get on the water, and are well worth it, as they are a good way of seeing the coast cheaply, free sangria too!

Didn't actually notice anywhere to hire boats for self drive, but if they are there then they will be somewhere along the quayside in Cala Llonga for sure!!

Have a nice time!

Re: Cala d\'Or

was there fairly recently, stayed at the cala d'or hotel over looking one of the beach's. from there (they have a good web site hotel cala d'or i think) u are basically between the eating area's one way (into town & very close) and the very large marina, again with eating area's. there were fishing hire boats, but didn't see any small day boats, don't think its that sort of area. lovely place, would definately return.

lots of boat movements from the marina area, very nice to watch from a restaurant. if u wud like the actual web site address for the hotel can let u have it.
lots of info on the web re cala d'or
