Just back from Cala D'Or, first visit of the new season and there have been a few changes to the restaurants. So for the regulars and anyone who might visit....

The bad news is that La Pampa is not there any more so I can't get my Tomahawk steak but it is now called Blue Ocean and being run by the bloke from the Yacht Club and someone from Waves. Romanian cuisine I am told.

The good news that the old Muira (?) on the top of the hill has been replaced by La Vista and is owned by the same people as A Table. This place is great. Regulars will know the great view from up there and now it is an all you can eat BBQ and paella place. French owners and top quality nosh. 29 Euros for a litre of sangria and about 8 different tapas. For 30 euros you get the afore mentioned tapas, as much paella and BBQ meat as you can stuff in your gob and desserts too. Even the veg is lovely.

Waves has really upped its game. It owns the deli next door now and they are planning to come around with a trike between 8 and 9 in the morning to all the boats, honking a horn, with fresh baked bread and bacon rolls, etc. Get a flag off them and hang it on your boat and they will stop and serve you. They also do boat delivery for the take away and they have proper back bacon.

A couple of new lunch spots to the left of Waves as you look from the water that seem nice.

Please add to the gossip and news if you know any.

I'm off to Cala D'Or for the first time in a few weeks so that's handy update.

We have a birthday whilst there, I was told Port Petit or La Scala would be good 'special occasion' places, would that be correct ?

Thanks for the update.
We've not tried La Vista yet, but did manage to be there for the pre-opening party in May somehow. It looked like an interesting concept and we are looking forward to trying it for real this week.
Dragos is the guy from the yacht club now running Blue Ocean. He did a decent job at the Yacht club and I wish him well. The location on the South side of the marina is difficult as it losses the sun early, which is the main reason we rarely made it in to La Pampa.
I had not heard about the Bacon butty trike! I may never go home.... but who in Cala d'Or marina is awake and hangover-free by 0900hrs?? The horn honking at 0800hrs will be interesting to witness.
The only thing to add is that the quarterdeck bar is under new ownership. A young British couple have taken it on without a whole lot of experience in such things and are giving it a go. I admire their spirit and hope to go up for a Negroni or two soon. R

That is pretty sound advice in my opinion. La Scala is one of our favourites. Food is good and service from Giovanni is always friendly. Port Petite perhaps a little more 'formal', so if that is what you prefer for the special occasion then it would be a good choice. A livelier option, if it happens to fall on a Tuesday, would be 'Italian night' at Cala d'Or yacht club. These nights have been great fun. Food not quite La Scala or Port Petite, but the atmosphere, the decent singer (if it's Paul Martin) and the dancing make it for us. (It was a Tuesday evening in 2016 and 2017.... but check it hasn't changed as we haven't been yet this year).
Good luck. R

+1

I saw a poster for Italian night outside the yacht club, I didn't notice the date though.

You could add Gadus to that list for good a la carte and a good view.
