cabin floor

I have a wooden floor in the cabin on my boat and to protect this from wear and scratching etc. I would like to put some sort of protection down .
Any advice on what to use ?
Or is this not a good idea ?

I use cheap rubber backed carpet and renew every 2/3 years - makes it non-slip...

2-3 layers of le tonkinoise and you will be fine for 3 seasons.
After that slight sanding and do again.
Stuff is dead easy to apply and smoothens itself while drying.

Don't use loose protective carpets or else - it's not safe at sea when heeled.

Good quality carpet-tiles work well - I've found rubber backed carpeting lethal in a seaway, but the tiles are stiff enough to not ruckle. You can also take them out to be washed or dried off.
Get polypropylene based ones they don't smell when wet. Only thing they won't stand is diesel in the bilgewater.
