Hi please would someone give advice on a good entry level second hand boat, with 2-4 berth. And advice on river moorings and best way to obtain find one that is reasonable. I'm based in yorkshire. thanks all for help.

Many people have started in a Viking 20, or Freeman. You can buy these for say £5k upwards.

Would be a bit cramped for 4, unless 2 of the 4 are very tiny!

i bought a 27ft river cruiser and a very nice boat it is but only just big enough for 2 adults and 2 kids and i mean only just hence i have just sold it

my advise would be to buy the biggest boat you can afford as you will only want a bigger one and if like me very soon after buying your first boat you will want bigger

This is very good advice. Our first mobo was a 22ft Cuddy, but we quickly recognised that is was inappropriate for our needs and moved onto a 25ft sports cruiser, that was snug, but adequate for the 3 of us, with 2 double berths.

I guess you will be looking for cruising the Ouse, and I believe there are several moorings on the river. If you look over on the Thames Forum, us ditch crawlers from a number of different rivers, not just the Thames, post on there, and you will find a host of useful info.

rafiki i thought your boat was much bigger than 25ft:confused:

Rafiki is 33". My point was similar to yours, our first boat didn't hit the mark, so we changed quite quickly. That was years before we bought Rafiki.

oh i see so you have gone 22ft-25ft-31ft i can see a 40 footer in that marina any day soon then ;)

where were you on sunday rafiki was siiting there looking very pretty in the sunshine but with a big sulk on her face as no one to love her and take her for a spin

Rafiki enjoyed the company of swmbo and myself on Saturday and Sunday. We left her about 4ish Sunday afternoon. We had a great Safari up to Worcester and back. Great weather, although a little breezy on Sunday afternoon. She was looking very smart as we left, so thank you for noticing. Where we're you?

we went to use our boat for the last time before we hand her over went upto just before pershore and back, we got back to tewkesbury about 5pm ish so you must have gone your boat looked nice in the sun we had

can you go on the avon can you get under the bridge by the lock or is she too big

Try a Birchwood 25!

Up to 6 berths if you include the (Covered) cockpit, and loads of space for 25'

Cheap as chips, but relatively few problems...:)

The King John Bridge is a bit snug. I have to take the furniture off the radar arch. This gives about 100mm clearance. We have never been up to Pershore as I understand that Eckington Bridge is even more challenging.

yes eckington is low but not sure there is much difference in the two bridges eckington is a bit tricky i suppose as the way the current is against the bridge its probally a 30 degree angle and when coming down stream it tries to push you a bit would be worth you looking into it as its nice up there you would enjoy it

So, does your current boat get moved, or is it staying at Tewkesbury?

raf

she is called Larissa and is moored on the river same side as your pool directly opposite the fuel berth

Great, I'll have a nose past this weekend. Also very interested in your new S37, and Weymouth mooring. We are looking to move house to Somerset, and Weymouth might be a good spot for Raf, until we go for the next boat (note your earlier post).

Hi
Where a bouts are you considering keeping the boat?
Do you have a budget in mind?

I started out with a Seamaster 27 which was not quite big enough.I then changed for a Ocean 30 without the fixed wheelhouse roof. We kept that 9 years and went as far as Leicester inland, down the Humber to Hull. Inland to Ripon one way and Boston through the glory hole.
As said earlier buy as big as you can
