Having come a cropper in the recent bank holiday gales I am going through the painful process of quotes and insurance, is it just me or is the whole industry slow and painful. At least with car insurance you know straight away whether you will lose your vehicle and more often or not they are two a penny so it does not really matter anyway.
Should it come to it and the boat is beyond economical repair has anyone had any experience of getting the boat back from the insurance companies they could share, I would hate to be the one to give my yacht the last rights and would rather lose a month of Sundays putting it right.

Sorry to hear of your loss. There but for the grace.....
What kind of boat is it?
Are written off boats blighted for future insurance as can happen with cars?
Will you be able to sell it as 'good as new'?
If you do get it repaired, make sure you are really happy with the repair quality, maybe have a surveyor acting for you, not your insurance company.

I knew a fellow catalac owner whos boat sank in Plymouth harbour. It was recovered and written off. The owner bought it back and replaced the engine and wiring. The only part he had trouble with was staining on some of the woodwork, which he was never able to remove.
