C&RT Licence increases pegged to inflation only

Report from the C&RT website re announcement earlier this month by new CEO

..... in line with the commitment given by the Trust in 2012 – private boat licences will rise in April 2014 by 2.8% in line with inflation, and will be increased by no more than inflation for the following two years.

Haha, yes good thing indeed.

In the last ten years my marina fees have remained the same, my insurance has come down, but my EA licence has grown from £260 a year to £474.

CaRT isn't flushed with money; they were foolish to accept less of a dowry from the Gov't than they needed and they are cutting back to some extent.

What they can do is raise money from tree huggers and the like, which EA cannot. Very sensibly they've said they want a realistic wad of cash to take over the EA navigations - and the current Dave's boys and girls have said 'ow much, you can't be serious.

Good, say I. The lockkeepers would almost certainly go and the River would become as sad as the real ditches.

For me, the problem is that the vast number of boaters on the Thames (present contributing company one this forum excepted) remain silent, unaware, don't give a jot - and that is really sad.

Without a large amount of feedback, how can river organisations make valid representations to EA local management and the government??
