C Plath Merkur compass

As it seems that the german company C Plath is no longer dealing with compasses, I should be very pleased if someone can tell me the composition of the liquid in a C Plath MERKUR compass.

Would be curious too about what good "Schnaps" is in this thing as they give an oparting range from -22F to 158F, let us know what you hear.
