I am currently weighing up whether to buy C-Map and Simrad electronics or Navionics and Raymarine. Does anyone have uptodate comparative info or views?
I prefer CMAP but only slightly. It was imho better than the old Navionics, but the new Navionics Gold (which new Raymarine will run on) is very good. All down to personal choice.
BUT, I have had Simrad and Raymarine plotters and radars and imho there is no contest, Raymarine is streets ahead. The Simrad user interface is very non intuitive, you have to study the manual hard and you still forget how to do things. It's like programming a bad video recorder. Raymarine in contrast is incredibly clever and intuitive. It's based on soft keys. You can do all the clever stuff like even track targets on Marpa without even using the manual, as it is all so intuitive. So for this reason I would always get Raymarine.
The plug an play connectivity of raymarine add ons like the new remotes etc is also another good reason to get Raymarine
There are some bargains currently on the old Raymarine HSB2 becuase the old stock is being sold off now that the E series has arrived. Eg the 10inch daylight colour RL80 CRC radar plotters (which run CMap) are only about £1300 including GPS. I bought 3 of these just 12 months ago when kitting our boat, for nearly 4 grand each! The 7 inch colour plotters/radars RL70CRC are less than £1000 including radome. Absolute bargain.
where I could order one, just display, as the main unit is inside? I need it for cockpit. Price is better that what was offered to few days ago here in our Marina.
To add to original question. We use both systems (history??? based) and have found Navionics easier to use than C-map.
When you say "just display" dont worry. The price of "just display" RL80 RC and "main unit" full plotter RL80CRC is nearly the same, now that they're selling off old stock
