Wonder if anybody can give me some info re using a card reader and editing the card for my SH 300i Plotter.

Until now I have logged many many tracks on existing card and now I would like to delete quite a few of the duplicates. I have borrowed a card reader from a friend, and as I understand it you have to transfer data from the plotter to a blank card so you can edit the info.
My friend has given me an old M-EW-C202.0 Western English Channel card which he said I can format which I assume will wipe the contents (exactly what data will be wiped? all data including the charts, or just your inputted track routes and tracks etc. ) Then I assume I need to transfer all the contents from the plotter to the blank card to edit it.

Question:

Will the contents of the Mega wide card fit on the spare card I have been given, or do I need a bigger capacity card and if so how big? ( how do I find out the capacity of either cards)

I also need to update my original card data and wondered if anybody had done so recently and could tell me how much it is likely to cost, also the possible cost of a suitable blank card.

If the cost is considerable, as I only use basically South Coast and Cross Channel I did wonder if it be more cost effective to try and sell my existing card and purchase a more local card. ( would the old mega wide card be worth much)

When I originally purchased the card I thought I would be going further afield than I actually have, so I don't need a mega wide card really.

Sorry for the length of the post, but thanks in advance for any replies

Philip

C-map charts are encrypted. Only the orange C-map card reader can be used to view charts and display them on a PC. I do not think you can copy chart data in any way and certainly not to a blank memory card, though you might be able to copy the tracks you have created, and rather than format another chart card I suggest that you just transfer the tracks to your computer hard drive, or to an ordinary memory card.

I have the same setup as you but all my tracks are stored on the plotter, not the card, I was not aware that anything was written to the card. I have the orange card reader and nothing is transferred to the PC by the chart card. To delete tracks on the plotter, press Menu, User points and then Tracks

Hi Philip,
I transfer my tracks (and WPs etc) to a blank C-card (black). I then use that in the separate orange card reader that came with the PC planner to store the data on my PC hard drive.
Since Navionics now own C-MAP, I have no idea whether these devices (blank card and reader) are still available.

I do have a orange cmap card reader and have put my plotter card in and linked it to the computer, but no tracks or routes transfer?
I thought that all inputted data from plotter would be held on the card and transfered to the computer .
I know you can delete tracks on the plotter but was worried to do it in case it deleted All of them , and I only wanted to delete a selected few individually.
Can you delete individual tracks on the plotter then or are all tracks deleted?

If no inputed data is held on the card how is it possible to pre plan your routes on the computer and then add them to the plotter.

I thought the whole idea of a blank cmap card was to transfer all the data held on the plotter, routes, tracks ,info etc to the card to make either a backup, pre plan routes or to transfer it to another plotter.

I am still a little confused?

I use a C-Map blank 2mb memory card to transfer from plotter to PC using the orange C-Map card reader. I don't think you can delete parts of a track. What I do is use the track to make routes, using the route function on the plotter. It is a bit fiddly and time consuming as the plotter does not do this automatically.

Thanks for the input so far guys.
So am I right in now thinking that the cards are only preloaded with charts of a specific area to only be loaded into the plotter, with no capability to input or store any additional info.
The plotter then is the only way to edit, input additional info to, or to copy plotter data , tracks, routes etc to a blank card.
The card reader is only a vessel to transport info from the plotter via a copied card in the plotter, to the PC ?
Question :
Once on the PC can it be further edited? or is the PC just another storage facility.
Cheers Philip

You have to save the tracks to a cartridge via the menu on the SH plotter. Not easy to edit tracks (I have tried) although they can be viewed in XML, so maybe possible. But its all very tedious.

Some further information in my post #32 on this thread:

Thanks everybody for their help and info and also ithet for the link which is very informative.

Will have to try and get a 2mb User Card and give it a go.

I tried to use the Chart Card one my friend gave me, and re format it ( clear it's contents) but the plotter says it doesn't recognise the either card, mine or his in the user card mode.

Thanks again

Philip
