Easiest way it to take the cartridge to your local chandlery/marine electronics company that deal in c-map charts. They will update the chart chip. Alternative is to post it to same.

Can also be done direct with Jeppersen

OK thanks ...are there any dealers in Yorkshire that can do it?
cheers

Go to the dealers link in my earlier reply, put United Kingdom, ignore the dealer name option and press Search

It will come up with a list of all the UK dealers. From a quick glance I couldn't see any in Yorkshire but there is one in North Shields, another in Newcastle. However, Yorkshire is a big county so maybe another to the south is nearer. FWIW I always get mine updated by Blue V in South Queensferry, Edinburgh. They will do you a very quick turn round by post.

This is a place I found myself in a couple of years ago now, free update with SH300i Plotter. When I made enquiries, I had to send it to the nearest agent which was in Poole. They said that because the voucher was from Jeppersen direct, they would have to send it to the Europe head quarters in Italy and would cost me £30 for the prevelidge ! After a bit of negotiation due to my saying it was supposed to be a free update, they decided to just charge me the postage costs each way, which were still expensive due it being Air Mail and insured. It also took about a month to do?
I believe that if you just need an update on anniversary of it being out of date that any local C Map Agent can do it via a computer download from Jeppersen, but I think that is about £50 ?

Mine is now out of date again and I am wondering whether to bother getting it done again? Land masses don't move, and buoyage and lights are updated in Almanacs and Notice to Mariners?

I suppose it's different if you intend going " World Wide " but for me just Coastal and maybe Cross Channel I wonder if it's worth it? only IMHO others may think otherwise.

I think that's a bit optimistic. In believe that its about 50% of the cost a new chart which means about £60 for a Local but nearer £150 for a Mega Wide

I didn't realise it was so expensive now! when I enquired a couple of years ago the going rate was about £50.

So that means I definitely won't be updating mine at £150 !!!

I just wish I could disable the notification of it being out of date every time I turn the thing on.

Just had my nt+wide updated. it used to be £120-ish and that was what the dealer tried to charge me. luckily i had checked the price with jeppeson and they said "I do confirm the price: 66 pounds + vat. We changed update policy in January 2015. You get the 60% off on the purchase price of the "final" card."

I them got the dealer to charge the correct price as jeppeson hadn't sent out new price lists. presumably the rise of navionics etc and the increased competition has led to people ditching plotters that use cards for tablet/pc based alternatives when it comes to updates.

Thanks for that, much more reasonable price. I'll be updating shortly so good to know

FWIW I recently found it considerably less expensive to send my chip to Jeppesen in Italy for them to do the update. The prices they said that the dealers should be charging were well below what any UK dealer was charging.

If you join the Jeppesen Club it costs something like £8 but that gives you a 10% discount (or is it 15% I'd need to check) and free return postage, so all in all it paid for itself immediately

Just as a matter of interest then, what was the total cost of the update for the C max please.

I was having something slightly different done it that I had a very old chip with an area they no longer supply so it was being converted to the nearest area that covered it; But in short the best price I could get in UK was about £90 and I paid £60 plus my club membership -ie about £70. To be fair it was during winter so no skin off my nose to post it to italy and wait a few days for it to come back

Just looked up Club Jepperson arrangements and it seems that it only makes financial sense if you plan to update every year. I tend to do mine every 3 to 4 years so the one off update with a local supplier makes more sense. However, I will happily be corrected if others know better. It was so much easier when cmap had an office, if I remember correctly, in Fareham
