c 70 radar problem

hi all, since renewing radar cable on my c70 chartplotter, The plotter does not
find scanner,I have checked all connections no joy, I have done scanner self test these are the results.



1. Heater hour count 00
2. Scanner rest count 0
3. Magnatron current 0ma
4. Rotation time 0ma
5. display coms fail
6. Cable test status fail
7. Reciever supply 12 volts pass
8. Reciever supply -5 9v pass
9. reciever supply 5 volts pass
10. Shp sensor pass
11. Magnatron heater pass
12. eeprm write pass
13. eeprm read pass
14. factor set up pass
15. If tuned pass
16. Stc preset max pass
17. Video test fail


Any help appreciated it doing me head in :confused::confused::confused:
 
I sympathise. Have had all sorts of difficulties with our E80 sets/radar.
Phone Raymarine and ask for help...in any event, ask them for the data sheet which gives the correct resistances for the cable connectors. I can send you a copy I was given...would assume its the same for you, as it is a test for the cable and scanner, rather than the display unit itself. All you need is a multi-meter to do the tests.

Drop me a line on bob@swanningabout.co.uk if you'd like a copy.

Could also try a factory reset...With the unit off, hold down the left-most of the 5 softkeys below the screen, and with that key held down, power the unit on as normal, keeping that key held down until you see the countdown, about 5 seconds total.

After months of the system working/not working/ resets etc , and some help from Raymarine (they wanted the whole system returned, which I wasn't going to do except as a VERY last resort), I swapped the helm unit for the upper helm one, changed the master to repeater, and vice-versa, and hey-presto..it all worked.)

An easy mistake to make is in the connection inside the radar unit.
This won't be the problem in your case as you've taken readings but I'll mention it here anyway.
The cable is connected to the Radome with a small connector and separate power wires.
The block that the power wires go into has two connectors for red and two for black. A common mistake is to put both wires into both black connectors or both red connectors. The wires actually need to go black, gap, then red.
The reason for the two blocks for each of the positive and negative wires is to allow for the heavy duty cable where the power wires are doubled up.

In my experience where a plotter does not 'see' the Radome and reports 'No Data Source' or similar it is because the voltage supplied to the Radome is insufficient. On some displays the Radome Power is supplied from the Plotter. It is sometimes better to open up the Radome cable and splice in a direct power source off it's own switch.

hi talulah, The cable is just the lightweight one as the scanner is the 2kw
version i am getting over12 volts to scanner on the plotter two soft keys
that turn scanner on do not light up ,as i have just spent nearly £160 on 10mtres of cable i do not want to cut in to it just yet.but i could run a seperate independant power source to scanner,will try that next weekend
and report back,thanks john.:)
