What you have to watch for is the Posty knocking on your door and demanding a large amount of pounds for the import duty thats automatically added when the seller declares the value to US customs.
As for guarantee, I would think you are fine, you get a world wide one when you buy from duty free at an airport so I would imagine its same. Try hitting the manufactuers website to ask.

I just bought a Raymarine autohelm back from the states. Had it delivered to the NY office and brought it back with me. Saved £200! International warranty so shouldn't be a problem. You have to question why stuff is so much cheaper over there - I can't believe it is just the exchange rate.

Usually no guarantee problems on name brands. With nav gear make sure you have the correct base maps etc. Usually there is a Euro version and a domestic version, so be careful. Also, be sure you are happy to work in imperial measure or that the item has imperial and metric options. At the present exchange rate an item costing, say $100 will cost you £100 after adding post, duty and VAT. If it still looks cheap on this dollars equals pounds comparison, then you are getting a true bargain, not an imagined one.

On that note i just bought some Nav equipment from Canada as well as blocks clutches. Uk prices were around £700 got the same kit in Canada shipped and with a free hat for £340. Its not to do with the exchange rate just rip off chandlery's in the UK.
Best part, the clutches were XAS with 'MADE IN ENGLAND' stamped on the bottom lol!

My pal & I have just ordered two well known marque ploter/fishfinder & all the toys from the USA. Boat show on offer for £2999. USA price inc duty & shipping to UK £1150. add to this the price of the chart software you need approx £150.00 this is still £1700 cheaper than you can buy here
Next day when asked why there was such a difference in price the stand rep had the gall to tell me the USA version would burn out if a large ship with radar went by. I just smiled at him & walked away.......................Nat
