Hi,

I want to buy a Raymarine sports autopilot and they are about £150.00 less than here if I buy from US. What import duty problems will I try and import one.

In the past I have looked at raymarine stuff from the states, and when you factor in duty and carriage it works out more expensive than you can get here at normal RRP. I bought an autopilot from Datayacht at Lymington at considerably less than RRP after requesting a quote from abt 20 different Raymarine suppliers.

Navman stuff on the otherhand, works out quite a bit cheaper.

This has been covered before but allow

17.5% VAT
about 10% Duty
£30-£50 handling charge for the collection of the above by the shipper.

Highly unlikely to be worthwhile for Raymarine kit that is made in EU

You can expect to add 24% to the $US price for VAT, import duty and shipping.

Unless the $ price is the same or smaller than the £ price you'll be unlikely to save much money, despite the strong £ to $. Also the charts supplied with the unit are likely to be for the US rather than Europe.
