Wondered if anyone has bought a yacht from Holland and can tell me about the process please?
Details of a trusted surveyor would be useful too, boat under consideration is a bit north east of Amsterdam on the Ijsselmeer.
It's from a broker selling on behalf of a charter company.

I bought our Dehler 36CWS in Holland but in 2001! It was a private sale overseen by the Rabo Bank who organised the money tranfer. If you think it is of any relevance send a private message?

I bought a boat through Bach Yachting who were in Enkhuizen at the time.It all went very smoothly although I was fortunate that the owner was a Brit so I paid the deposit to the broker in euros and the rest by cheque in pounds.I had a survey done by a HISWA registered surveyor and it was very comprehensive.I was there when he did it.Re defects identified during the survey, the contract specified if substantial defects or damage of a constructive nature were found, the procedure was for for the defects to be made good at the sellers expense to the surveyors satisfaction ,or the parties shall settle the costs of repair determined by a recognised surveyor and deduct them from the price. If the repairs were more than 20% of the price the seller was entitled to rescind the contract and the deposit would be returned. If the repairs involved improvements the costs were to the purchaser.
Interestingly the contract specified that the survey was for the purposes of checking
The proper functioning of the propellor installation.
That the condition of the vessel below the waterline was good.
The soundness of the construction.
The proper functioning of the electrical/electronic installations and apparatus.
After signing the contract to purchase i paid 10% deposit within 7 days and after the survey 14 days later.

There is not so much of an option to reduce the price for small items in the survey as in the UK was how it was explained to me,so you need to give any boat a good inspection before making an offer.
In my experience the Dutch look after their boats generally better than we do in the UK.
A broker in Holland will give you a list of HISWA surveyors.
I found the whole process very professional and both the Broker and Surveyor first class.

They all speak excellent english as you probably know.

I had my boat surveyed by Olav Cox. I can thoroughly recommend him.
He is a certified engineer, circumnavigated a couple of years ago and then set up as a surveyor. I was there when he surveyed the boat, as was the owner. He did a very thorough job, commenting as he went along and two days later sent me a comprehensive report.
