Seeing as diesel has sort of gone out of fashion I am assuming that the quality of fuel sold at marinas is going to deteriorate as the turn over reduces and sooner or later we will be filling up with debris, diesel bugs and water !

Does anyone know if all fuel is filtered before we put it in our tanks ?
I remember once seeing an in line filter at port solent but I have never seen one elsewhere.

(background but not very relevant) when I used to travel round the country with AD41's I would use recycled heating oil, that was the old heating oil sludge removed from household tanks that were either being repaired or removed as villages got gas.
I would have to drain off 5 gallons each year from the bottom of my tank as there was a lot of **** in it due to it being stood for so long.

I dont know about the future, but I have not a lot of choice but to buy my diesel in drums. I always check them to make sure they are clean and have no water or debris in them before they are filled, and always filter the fuel while filling the tanks. Its a joke most of the time as I nearly always find water and residue at the bottom which I put in a bucket, then filter through a wash leather. If its going to get worse, who knows what we may find. Been thinking about trying bio diesel, anybody given it a go yet??

The diesel you are buying now will probably 3-5% bio diesel. You are probably OK going to max 10% bio diesel, but beyond this, you will need at least to ensure that fuel hoses are resistant to the fuel, fuel lines are stainless steel, and probably need some injector tuning. Most car handbooks will say not to use higher that 7.5% bio mix due to the above.
