Hi, I need to buy all of the above but can't find anywhere.... Online would be easier, i need lugs and a crimping tool for a 35mm battery cable.

can anyone help?

Thanks

Mike

One of the best value online shops for this sort of stuff is Acorn Engineering. They have the lugs and terminal connectors you need. The sort of crimping tool you need for cable that size is very expensive, and you'd be advised to get an auto electrician to crimp them for you rather than buying a tool. Alternatively, solder them, that's what I did and despite all the claims that this will weaken the cable, it works fine.

Take the lugs and cables pre cut to an auto electrician. If resorting to soldering then you should "soften " the joint as it will tend to cuase the wire to fail where it enters the solder especially on any engine mounted lugs. I have done this by putting several layers of heatshrink over the connection and an inch or so down the cable so as to save it from trying to bend at the lug.make each layer of heatshrink shorter than the one below.

Most of my joints were made using the Merlin "Economy" tool, which does nothing more than put a dent in the lug. For smaller (<25sqmm) cable I have even resorted to flattening the lug in a vice. To date none have failed.

I think the secret is to (1) use decent lugs, (2) use lugs of the correct size (almost need to force the strands in), and (3) cover the result with adhesive lined heatshrink.

Hi savageseadog... thanks for the offer but i'm on a saving push so if i can find a friendly auto-electrician on the IOW i'll ask them to do it for me.

Thanks

Mike
