Buying an Andorra registered boat?

I am interested in buying an Andorra registered boat which is domicile in Spain and would intend to keep it here as well.

The broker said that there is no Vat receipt (boat was built in 1993) but was re engined in 2005 with a pair of VP D4's for which Vat has been paid. It has had one owner since new and has always been based in Spain. The broker said the engines are worth more than the hull and that as Vat has been paid on the engines any vat due would be minimal.

THe broker also says that as it has been in Spain for so long there is nothing to worry about. I would of course get it on the SSR.

Any comments about possible problems would be appreciated.

I suspect that to British register it in Spain it will have to be Part 1 ... they'll want translations in English of everything!

Not at all

the SSR is perfectly acceptable in Spain (or any EU country). Also, the Registry will accept notarised translated copies of documents for the Part 1 so having English originals is also not a requirement

We have just got back from a great but hot week in Empuriabrava.
I would think the only problem you would have is whether the same questions would be asked on resale. I'm not sure how uptight the Spanish are on this sort of thing.
Maybe a bonus not being registered in Spain. I can only imagine deregistering a boat in Spain would be an expensive nightmare. I recon just fill in the SSR form, pay the fee and off you go.
Just as an aside I've just had my cockpit re upholstered by Cover-tec just a few shops down from Volvo Penta in San Margarida. An English guy called Dan Allard ....really recommend him and at €30/hr when it was 1.4 to the £ was really good value.
Hope all goes well with the boat purchase and see you on the water.

David has been helping with advice.
The plan to be in Roses from the 7th Aug to the 21st
Will probably take the RIB for a run round Empuriabrava and try some of those anchorages north of Roses.

BTW - I don't see any problem just sticking it on the SSR and keeping it in Spain

Thanks for the recommendation for my daughter's restaurant David but she has now sold it and is busy raising a family. (we have a 2nd granddaughter now!) Her husband now manages the Wave Club up at the top of the town near the drop zone.

Congratulations on 2nd granddaughter but what a shame to not have "Blue Sky" we noticed it closed about 6 weeks ago and assumed it to be an out of season thing.
On to our next favourite "La Clota" in L'Escala owned by a lovely Scottish lady called Katherine. For those interested you can park the boat in the marina (€15 charge high season, free other times) and it's just across the road.

Ah yes, I think it's different if your main residence is in the UK.
