Raggies v Stinkers, Stinkers v Raggies Happening on every forum nowadays.

WTF is that all about?

Whichever clique you belong to doesn't matter, both have a love of water. Get over it and enjoy life.:(

My first boat will be a sub, I can then keep away from all this BS.

... and if you buy a sub, then you won't have to comply with the (apparent) rule that it's compulsory to wave at any silly sod who happens to pass you by in a boat. What's that about ? I gave up waving at steam trains when I was about 8.
I mean, do boat-waving people also wave at passing trucks on the highway ? And if not, why not ? Are they truck-ist ?

It's a pity that a simple courtesy like waving gets someones knickers in a twist !

I and a lot of others have always exchanged a wave or nod, and will carry on doing so; I had the pleasure of sailing with 'Vern' of these forums recently - he's quite new to sailing but as he's a very decent bloke enjoyed exchanging waves, as I recall only one boat out of probably a hundred, ( a sailing boat ) ignored us.

I once had the huge pleasure of crewing on a Falmouth Working Boat, a wonderful experience and racing as it should be done; " Pass me a beer and a pasty, and put up a third jib ! "

Whenever we crossed tacks with another Working Boat, the whole crew of 9 would yell " Hurrah ! "

Re. submarines, well I had one hide under my boat once during a NATO exercise...

My favourite RN signal;

a convoy was being escorted by a destroyer and a sub.

WWII subs were really 'submersible' motor boats, the big deck gun often being the preferred weapon.

The sub signalled to the destroyer " If attacked, I intend to remain on the surface ".

The destroyer replied " So do I ! " :D

Would a marina charge you for LWL of the conning tower:D actually, that could be a neat way of minimising berthing fees- just submerge the bows to reduce LWL... I'm off down to the shed to work this up a bit more:D

I'm with you on this one, it's totally inane! One of the reasons I go sailing is to get away from people and "society"

I WANT TO BE ALONE...........so don't sodding well wave at me! You got that Seajet???:D

I have sometimes played a little game with meself, (no not that), to see if I can guess who the wavers will be, and dya know what, it's mostly a couple in some plastic fantastic wearing silly tilley hats.

If and when I get out on the water, you see me waving then I respectfully suggest you take note, my waving will not be one of "Hello, how are we, today" but "Get the feck out of the way, I am carp at this sailing lark":D

How about you attach a windscreen wiper motor to the top of a staunchion, replace the wiper arm with a bamboo stick and a glove on the top... motion sensor out to about 50 yards (or just leave it running all day if you're in the Solent):D
