I have wanted to purchase a sailing boat for around 10 months and have looked extensively in the UK and other European countries. Although I have seen some good value for money examples, of good family boats I have still been attracted to the potential savings of buying the equivalent over the Atlantic. Would any one reading this thread have any knowledge of how complex this process is what are the hidden pit-falls and am I really making a saving or are these savings well outweighed by the VAT and import duty?
If buying in the USA is a potential saving do I pay a crew to sail the boat back, if so what are the costs of this? Or do I have it shipped in a container or as marine cargo?
Perhaps some of you have direct experience of this? Many thanks for reading.
