Buying a Navtex from the States

/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I bought exactly the same model a few days ago from Defender US (slightly cheaper than your site), I expressedly asked them if that was a dual frequency unit or not, they checked the machine and contacted Furuno which said it is the same dual frequency model as is sold in Europe as NX300DPRO or other names
Indeed, the operator s manual in the furuno US site is absolutely the same as the one for the NX300DPRO

I have yet to receive it, but at 360 USD + 70 postage that makes roughly 320/330 euro, compared to furuno "special offer" at the paris boat show a few days ago at 540 euro..

If you look at the NX300 brochure on the Furuno site, it describes it as the "Dual frequency version", which implies that there's a single frequency version too. The unit is coded "NX-300-D" on the back of the brochure. Could be that for production simplicity they ship dual versions to the States but don't mention it.

yes that's possible

otoh, it is worth noticing that furuno dual frequency means you can receive 518 OR 490 (one has to choose the frequency beforehand), whereas other makes like ICS receive both 518 AND 490 messages at the same time, without the need to select the frequency first

would you post on this tread once it arrives and let me know? I'd be really grateful

it arrived y'day, plugged to 12V supply at home and even if I could not test the antenna, the display showed the possibility to choose frequency between 518 and 490, so I think it is dual frequency indeed

re pvb remark, I think he is right there must have been some other models with only one frequency, there are plenty of different labels on the instrument (NX300 Model Version NX300D, dual frequency Model NX300 etc)...
