I'm looking seriously at buying a Montivideo yacht - she is a South African design and about 50 were made in the 80s. Does anyone know anything about the suitability of this type of yacht for bluewater sailing. Any information will be very much appreciated.

A design by Angelo lavranos who produced a string of successful designs in SA he is in kiwiland now. web page

I think the Montevideo was built by Robertson yachts, quite a good yard.

Angelo's boats were always good in the racing scene and designing for the Cape Waters you need to take into account potentially severe sea conditions. I'd not have any doubts about the capabilities of one of his boats!

Great boat!
I know two families who have done extensive cruises in the Monte's- one of them have owned two, not in succession either! Some were built by John Robertson, who now builds the Leopards, and some were also home-finished.
