I am looking at buying a Italian registered yacht through a Italian broker who speaks very little English. I have got as far as the iradication of the flag and blue book proceedings via a surveyor.

I dont think he will use a RYA style contract
What should i look out for and how do i control the money side of things?

Or any other concerns?

Yes I have read those threads, Thanks
Why when a question is asked specifically about Italy someone talks about buying in spain.lol

The problem I have is the International brokers' non-ability to communicate with me in English. And me with him in Italian .

I have, to me negotiated a good price and would like to proceed with this purchase, on sending questions to broker I rarley get the answer to the question being asked.
Then again he will not move on his 5% fee he wants me to use a local surveyor for 1450+vat with a sea trial to test the engine I asked for a water hose and qualified mechanic to run the engine and carry out a compression test instead, as it would save money on an up and down
Then up to 1000euro for irradiation of flag?
I think it's down to lack of communication but I have serious concerns in handing over a large amount of money not understanding the process.
It would help greatly if I could get someone to be able to speak the language.

This is your post above translated to Italian by Google Translate. I'm using it very successfully to communicate in French with the PO of my recently acquired boat even though I don't speak any French.
ho letto quei thread, grazie

That's easy if you can get the other person to answer the question being asked, not the questions you havent asked.
If I walk away from this deal, it will be because the Broker has failed in his duty of care towards his client.
We have a situation that an Owner wants to sell and a buyer that wants to buy and a broker that is not to interested in either. imo

Every message I have sent has been in English with the Italian translation underneath.
Its the lack of answers creating the problem.

Trust me I know. I’ve posted about my own relatively recent experiences with a British broker in Greece and I would never buy from a broker again. Too many totally incompetent shysters in that profession to be taking risks with our hard earned cash.

I was told by an italian boat owner, that the declared engine hp rarely matched the reality, because of 'tax' adjustments.
