As my research continues, the reading gets more intense and the ideas (good or ill) begin to settle, a thought occurs.

What if I buy a boat not in my home port - a likely occurance.

Can I get help in sailng her back, can she be transported by road; whats the score guys?

That is very common, and as all else here...it depends... how far, what sort of boat, what sort of skipper, crew and experience, how much you are willing to pay, time of year, ...

Look through the posts, and you'll see lots about the costs of road transport - it's quite often the best solution, say, for a smallish boat from the west to east coast of the UK, or across Europe even for a big one.

You will also see posts asking for help sailing back, either crew to help, or expert help for an inexperienced new owner. In that case, probably the helpers' expenses are paid, and they'd regard it as helping a friend, or as sailing experience. That's probably relevant for the shorter trips, or if you have good friends to help.

Or, then again, you could ask for professional help - there are plenty of delivery skippers, find them via ads in the sailing mags or ask a local sailing school. Some would take the new owner and give him some official or unofficial tuition at the same time. Some would rather just sail/motor the boat round to the new port as quickly as possible. Either would charge per day + expenses.

Good luck with the hunt.

Where's the home port going to be?

Post on here when you've bought her and I am sure between us we can find you some crew.

Indeed if you go for a Rustler then SWMBO and I would definately check our diarys as we talk about one of those for the future.
