'ang on a mo, I'll just take some bearings
At last the Hamble HM has found me a permanent mooring. Bit remote. Don't fancy getting to it in my mini deflatable, so considering a hard dinghy that will row sensibly. Anybody know where to buy something like that - tatty enough not to be eminently nickable, untatty enough to float, preferably GRP or plastic, preferably within easy (boat) towing distance of the Hambule?

Yes, I've looked at eBay.

Ta in advance.

would a round metal structure with scrumptious tit-bits of pie stuck to it (for sustenance during yr exertions) be appropriate ... ?

Just been through the same issue. Was using my (expensive) inflatable to get from the marina pontoon to my mooring for the first few weeks .... whilst becoming increasingly depressed about the level of demand / prices on ebay. I kept my eye on boatsandoutboards and found a very nasty 7'6" pram dinghy for £30. A weekend of work in the garage and it is now doing sterling work on the Hamble. Suggest you keep a look out onwww.adtrader.co.uk too

OK
so you anchor up and row over to the pub, taking you row lock and oars with you.
I can just see a new craze, of carrying your oars with you around the town,
someone had better let the folly's know we need oar hooks as well as jacket hook /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ken. nice to see you back on the Forum. Liked your article in YM, by the way.
But, have you considered walking round the foreshore, either Hamble, P'mouth or Chi harbour, and picking up an abandoned dinghy for nothing. I am sure there are loads lying around for the taking /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The Harbour Authority on the Dart collect abandoned and damaged dinghies and sell them off occasionally - TK might find a harbour authority in the Solent that does the same.

... so does Chichester harbour - but usually around October time. Worth giving them a call to find out though.
