I normally fuel my cooker with Camping Gaz ( butane) but the boat is the US and the C Gaz will shortly run out- they don't have it over there. My plan is to buy a bottle or two of whatever they use and fit a recommended regulator, and then connect to my system, reversing it when I get back to the UK.
I take it the the cooker (Plastimo) won't mind if it burns butane or propane?

LPG appliances will operate on either propane or butane, so should be OK. In the US propane is the most widely used and it is typical to own your own cylinders which you get refilled.

With my Plastimo stove you needed to remove the restrictors in the hob burners. Remove the cast iron bit and you'll see the restrictors in the "tube" underneath. FWIW the stove worked fine with them left in!

You will need to buy a US gas cylinder and regulator, as their rules are as strict as the UK's for what cylinders can be refilled. If you are going to hang on to them for any length of time I'd get the aluminum cylinders, bit more expensive but no rust!

In the Caribbean, they'll fill anything up.

doesn't it freeze earlier?

[/ QUOTE ] The freezing points are low enough not to be of concern normally but the boiling points are. The Bpt of butane is high enough to make it unusable below about 5C. Propane is therefore used at lower temps.
