Hi.
Just about ready to strip the old plywood bottle container out and fit a new galvanized unit with vent to the outside of the hull.
Question is.
Does it matter where the vent pipe exits the hull?
To keep the vent well above the water line, i need to fit the vent higher then the lowest level of the new container.

Hi Haydn.
Yep, got the drain pipe coming from the bottom of the container, unfortunately the pipe has to take an upward sweep to exit the hull above the water line. So i guess it's not going to work correctly.

Any ideas please.

Google for Boat Safety Scheme OR Calor Marine guidelines. Have no doubt, the locker must be gasproof from a height above the tallest cylinder down to the outlet over the side. So the skin fitting is to be located at the very bottom of the locker after which it must be . . . all downhill.

But if you don't want to visit the Thames, our canals or the European waterways and IF no new legislation stops us seafaring folk from peeing and cooking where or how we like, then why bother?

then why bother?

[/ QUOTE ] whilst I would agree the principle when applied to such issues as 'metal fuel lines' and the like (as opposed to properly graded rubber ones) on this I would have thought it worthwhile doing it properly ie having a properly vented gas locker.

Hi,

I am a boat safety examiner, the outlet must be within 1" of th bottom of the locker and at least stay level to the skin fitting. It is best to use either a gas approved pipe for the drain.
If I can help further PM me.
