Busy weekend on the Cherbourg side

Due to the light wind up my rear on Friday night diverted from the planned Fecamp jolly to St Vaast to get better sailing speed angle. (Lovely trip across very clear Milky Way). Times not ideal as had to wait till afternoon to get in. Marina and Town very crowded with people saying Cherbourg was also packed to the rafters with the FoS. Cafe du Port up to its usual high standard but just as well I booked a table on arrival.
Coming back was the forecast motor in the sun but masses of shipping, the most I have seen for couple of years - had to divert several times for both lanes and inshore TZ as well.

Got back yesterday from a weekend trip to Cherbourg. It was packed but they fitted us all in as usual. (Found myself tied up next to Mr. & Mrs. Tome.) Tall ships and a great assortment of old gaffers making the place look very festive. Also great fireworks on Saturday night.

I don't feel so bad now about all my diversions due to shipping (first cross channel in 10 years for me). My route from Cherbourg to Portsmouth Sunday am/pm was quite misty though the Sun overhead was strong, ships would appear as grey lumps at about 4 miles and did not allow much time for computation of metal CPAs.

My crossing on Friday night was magic, warm Med like breeze, stars and a 22 year nephew doing his first night sailing, his night-clubbing hardened constitution meant he was happy to take the helm from midnight to 4am while Uncle dosed in the cockpit.

Does anyone know when the festivities in Cherbourg end. Was planning to pop across this coming weekend and just wondered if it's still going to be busy?!?!

Looking at what my crew brought back to the boat on Saturday there can't be a lot left in Cherbourg!
