Interesting to read that a coastguard officer said that 6 other people have been swept off Witches point in the last 30 years .All died except this guy probably due to him wearing a floatation suit.Also instead of trying any heroics his mate immediately dialled 999.

I do wonder how useful the Essex fire boat is.
On three occassions I can recall it being used:~
1/ They couldn't find where to launch in Burnham to get to a yacht on fire on a mooring.
2/ They could not go near a boat on fire at shore end, because it may have had gas cylinders aboard.
3/ At a demonstration in BYH they could not start the portable pump & the spectators had to wait while they went to buy some oil.

I must be missing something here.
Where is Witches Point? Is this linked to the story of a boat on fire?
Has anyone got any more info on this story?
As usual the press only seem to give the bare bones and get much of it wrong.

There was a person recovered from the Sea in a Flotation suit 30 Yards off Witches point Southerdown , South Wales On Thursday by Porthcawl and Llantwit Major Life boats Successfully .
