Burnham...

White Hart bar food is good and reasonably priced

The food in the dining room is even better but the price reflects the quality

It's our default place to eat in Burnham (mind, we're not adventurous, if we find somewhere we like we tend to stick)

I always used to go to the White Hart when in Burnham, but they seem to put a lot of salt in the food and spoil it. There is another pub just downstream a few metres (I cannot recall its name) which is much better .... and has a much prettier waitress

I think you may have been unlucky.

We eat from the bar menu at the W.H. fairly regularly, and haven't noticed the food being salty.

I personally hate salty food. I never add salt when I cook. I shudder when I see friends shaking salt onto their meals.

(Note to self: must take a surreptitious skeet at the bar maid in The Anchor).

While minds are focused on Burnham and food, I wonder if anyone can advise me.

Is there anywhere in Burnham other than the marina where I can go alongside for a few hours (for lunch, perhaps?) Or where I could leave a dinghy for a few ours, with the possibility of a mooring reasonably close by? Or even just to pick up or drop off crew members?

No objections to the marina, but it's a bit of a step from there to the centre of the town. I'm a walker, but I usually have people with me who aren't such avid walkers as I am.

Many thanks.

Each to their own, Bru ..... I wouldn't judge anyone by their taste buds!

Fair enough but if you're ever dining aboard Pagan for crissakes remind me you don't like salt! I don't do "a dash of" something, if it's going in the pot I use a big shovel to add it!

I'm pretty sure that, at quiet times (eg during the week - except Burnham Week), you would be very welcome to lie alongside any of the clubs' pontoons (ie RCYC, RBYC and BSC).

Maybe give them a ring?

I have used the RCYC pontoon for a short stay having picked up one of mooring opposite over night, however that was on a quiet weekday rather than in the middle of boats being recovered from Sunday's racing.

Many thanks, NealB and Little Grebe. Much appreciated.

In terms of places to eat in Burnham we could not get a table at the Oyster Smack in Burnham on Saturday, so went to Bella's Bistro in the High Street and was seriously impressed with some of the food and a pretty good value wine list. A good modern Italian restaurant, well reviewed on Trip Advisor too.

Agreed: Bella's is also great.

So .... if it doesn't have to be a pub:

- The Polash Indian has always been reliable for us

- The Jolly Frier does great takeaway fish and chips (we have fish and chip wars in Burnham at the moment: the Sanda is also good).

- Sgt Pepper's (American diner) does good steaks and ribs

- The Swallow Tail at the marina does good food, though it's sometimes very slow on busy weekends.

Plenty of choice!
