So let's see ... that's £180 to have the sad fact that I'm a carp sailor with a slow boat rammed down my throat several times a day for over a week. And to drown my sorrows I'll have to fight through the crowds to get to the bar

Hmm, tis a strange thing that racing doesn't hold much appeal for some reason!!! :D

That would be your own personal voodoo. It ain't necessarily so, that's what handicaps are for, and especially ones that are moved each day following your performance, or not.

What I dislike about Burnham Week (and I live there!) is that in the dim and distant days I am told, members of any of the four sailing clubs were welcome to the social events at the other clubs. Now you need a wrist band and the only way to get that is to enter a boat. To get the teenagers in my family (now older and grown up!) the wrist bands they thought were their due, I have in the past entered, then scratched, simply to get wristbands.

And 20 years ago, it was a much livelier affair, it has really gone downhill recently. As Sir John Harvey Jones said when you hear 'we can't understand it we're not doing anything different' when faced with steady decline you have the reason for the steady decline.
