First the apology for posting here but I'm aware some of our esteemed readers do not visit the lounge.

Two questions, caps and chappesses

i) Anyone know of a good aerial rigger in or around the above? This screwing them to walls not masts.

ii) Good places to stay/eat for a couple of nights. The eat is important since I have a long history of being unable to get fed in Burnham.

TIA

Colin

Try the White Hart for accomodation. First class little pub/hotel right on the waterfront. You don't say why the 'long history' of being unable to get fed. There are several good pub restaurants and besides the Thai mentioned above there is a half decent Indian, a Tex Mex, the Swallowtail at Burnham Yacht Harbour is also quite passable. All in all for the size of the place i think the range of food available is well above average. Be interested to hear what your probs were.

Good luck and have a nice stay.

Second the White Hart for accommodation. They do meals there in the evening, and a good hearty breakfast to get you going in the morning as well!

Food
The Tex Mex (Sgt Peppers) is down the High Street, just beyond Prior's yard, and is a good all rounder. The Thai is on the opposite side, very good but slightly expensive - more of a place for a candlelight dinner when you're trying to butter up SWMBO. The Ship, on the High street in the opposite direction, also does good pub food. There's a Chinese up there, but stay clear: been in twice, both times come back out again before sitting down - nobody seemed interested in serving, and the lack of customers didn't bode well. If you're looking for lunch, look no further than the Cabin Dairy, next to Prior's.

And so to the Contented Sole, a premier fish nosh, not a chippie, bring money....

Accommodation, well the Oyster Smack is a small walk up the High St a bit, but has great chalet style rooms out the back, and the family room is partic recommended. Standard pub grub, but the breakfast in the rear patio served on a Sunday until after 11am. A favourite of mine. Bass normally.

White Harte, good accom, bit pricey due to location, food ok to good depending, a it sharp on price, but the bar meals are passable. Drink the Crouch Vale.

Anchor also picturesque but a bit limited and can be a bit surly, or maybe thats just me.

Avoid the Star, bit low rent IMHO.

Chinese can do a good meal, but only if the litlle owner bloke is in a good mood it seems.

Bekash Indian rests on its laurels, and is not the place it was 15 years ago. Miss I'm afraid.

Sgt Peppers 1st meal after SWMBO and I got back together (after 28 years) so shaded nostalgically on the v good side.

There is a new place which looks bistro-ish with black marble floors, not quite open, waiting for the paint to dry.

Thai is very good and lovely service (wait till you go to the loo, its personal) but properly priced for a v good meal. Not a bargain, but not a rip.

Swallowtail the marine equiv of a Harvester, solid value. Adnams very good.

Victoria arms, knockout beer, good value meals freshly prepped veg. Bargain.

RCYC, excellent value and good but limited menu. Lovely setting of course. Available Fri-Sun inc Brekkies, no accom of course. Visiting Yachtsmen Welcome so says the sign. You may also find me & SWMBO there, so mebbe give it a miss. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Crouch, pretty good bar menu, nothing stands out for me.

RBYC, dunno, not eaten there since last Burnham Week

BSC. Aunties food, bloody excellent on race nights for a paltry sum. Get in if you can.

Take aways - Burnham Grill now doing OK Kebabs and still not OK fish, chpis or burgers.
Star of the entire show is the Curry Cottage Takeaway. Totally and utterly recommended, find somewhere to eat it. Bargain and brilliant.

Absolutely no knowledge of artisans willing to climb onto your roof with metallic bird bars. Sorry.

Ha! We marry soon.
Hope yours bought you half a decent boat, mine did!

She even kept the ring I gave her in 1973, and wears it still. Savin on the wedding ring, excellent news, toddle off to the chandlery on the left over.

Here is a pic of me & Lynn from June 1973.......

Hi Clive,

Yup, should be live in the next month.

Will pobabably be going up at the back end of next week, but only for a day visit. Should then be up for a couple of days in the fortnight after that. Be good to share a pint (or two). I'll pm you when I'm sure of dates.
