We are setting off into the inland waterways of France in April 2012, in particular the Burgundy region. We need to keep in touch with family in UK via Skype and occasional phone calls. We have a port de plaisance and French bank account and need advice on the most cost effective way to use skype via a laptop on board and the best mobile/dongle coverage in the region. What are the costs and has anyone any recent expeirence of getting a dongle for internet use, was it strong enough when away from French towns to skype with, what size dongle should we get?.. any help greatly appreciated..

Thanks

Michael

It's not a big problem - SFR or Orange both do contract (abonnement) if you've got a French account, or PAYG, mobile 3G plans. If you're going into Burgundy I can recommend Arleen at the Dijon SFR shop (although she's probably long gone . . )

Can't comment on coverage differences between the two, but you should be ok. We use mobile 3G a great deal - yes it varies but quite usable.

luckily that the webpages are in English !:)
