Is there one?Ii'd like to be able to do a regular updating of my buoys/wayopoint database every 2 months or so, and I certainly don't want to pore over an almanac update to do it.
Area is Thames estuary and French, Belgian and Dutch coasts.

I've found that the best way to accurately update the position of buoys used as waypoints is to go to the buoy in question and use the "mark" option to create a new waypoint whilst alongside the buoy.remember to delete the old waypoint and to rname the new one accordingly.

You can buy a waypoint directory for about £19. It goes by areas so you can select those you want. It is very useful as it includes pilotage notes. I think it is by Peter Cullimore but I am bad at remembering names. Updates can be btained from Navtex or from the Macmillan Reeds or from the chart correction services.

I didn't know chart corrections were on Navtex, Where? mine doesn't seem to do that, but its one of the older NASA sets.

May have been having a senior moment. I have an ICS dual frequency and it churns out all the Nav warnings, including reports of buoys being moved, missing etc. and of new hazards that will eventually become chart corrections, it does not give chart corrections as such

Brendan,

I had the same thought a couple of months ago. Why not have a listing on this site if we all used the same subject format it could be search easily :

SUBJECT (WAYPOINTS-RIVER-BUOYNAME) a search on waypoints-river you are interested in would then give you all listed waypoints, wouldn't it?
Waypoints must all be WGS84 and collected by going to the waypoint.
All entries should be under the same format suggest :

River Buoy Name Lat Long Buoy Type Date
Crouch Horse 51,37.10N 00,51.60E NCARD 29-04-02

Would this be useful or a waste of effort, would it be useful to you?
I would be happy to do my home river (CROUCH).
What is the consensus.

I think this could be a recipe for disaster, not everybody is as hionest as you. How do we know the posts are correct, we don't know the official lists are correct, but they have to strive for accuracy, in case of legalities, of course they always include a "get out clause" Dont use this information for navigation! What the hell are we going to use it for then! But info gathered by all and sundry, sorry I'm a bit skeptical. IMHO

Colin,
You are probably right its sad that while some of us will offer any help we can others will get off on spoiling it. Obviously any information offered on this site member to member does not come with a guarantee, but information which is deliberatly placed with the view to mislead or endanger the recipient hopefully would result in a ban being placed on the poster.
I have found this site to be frequented by genuine people who love boating and often go to great lengths to help.
My view is lets keep it light hearted but above all lets keep it safe!
Thanks for your reply.
