I decided to drive down to Portland Bill this afternoon to wave hello to all you folks as you took the inside passage around on your summer jaunts.

Not a single boat sighted. What is up with you lot.

Have some video that I will put up here when I can. It was not nice but not as bad as I was expecting though.

Sleep tight as you are all tucked up in your marinas...

Not quite sure what your point is but I once went around on the inside passage with a flotilla of boats having left Weymouth on the early tide. V light W wind as we headed down to the Bill and were under motor part of the time. Then as we rounded the Bill the wind hit us like a bullet, in our case causing us to gybe and breaking the vang/kicking strap. Then a few mins later we gybed back and the iwnd reverted to almost calm. The difference had to be experienced to be believed. Hence in anyhting more than a moderate breeze (12-15kts) I wouldn't hesitate to stay out.

You're 2 month too late. I went westwards round the Bill on 11th June using the inshore passage en route for Brixham and beyond.

You'd have need binoculars to see me on the return because I was 7 miles off going from Brixham straight through to Chichester in the only fair weather window I could find in the last week of June.

My post was very much tounge in cheek. I think it would have been rather silly for anyone to have been out there yesterday.

f7-8 SW which is kicking 10bells out of the Fastnet fleet has caused a fair amount of seas to come crashing into the Bill.

You must have got there a bit early. Boats were rounding the Bill from close in to well out. We also have a wide range (in size) of retirements in Weymouth harbour.

Some have gone home but others have stayed for today's Carnival! Hope the clouds lift for the Red Arrows and the fireworks.

Count me in with that lot.

Just spent the best part of the week tied up in Padstow.

Inside the harbour the weather was terrific and hot, outside in the sea, there were 10 foot waves and f5/6 winds.

We thouroughly enjoyed the stay, ending up with a great sail home with 5 on the stern in big seas.

Max speed downhill was 11.7 knots!!

The local water board kept all of us Yotties busy by ordering the tap spouts to be cut off! (ouch!!!)

Some problem with syphoning apparantly, but as a result we all were filling our water tanks with 5 or 10 litre containers.
