Today, I was at Beaulieu and saw a Bulldog aluminium anchor for 12m boat at about 50 quid less haggling. It is basically a 6.5kg assembly like a Danforth.
Bulldog is produced by Monaco Diffusion Marine (MDM), but no amount of Googling fetches anything useful
As I was after a lunch hook, I gave it a punt.
Have any of my august fellow forumites any knowledge of this putative bargain?
Should it only be used as a decorative garden ornament?

Yours in mirth,

Never heard of such thing. But I have known a racer have an aluminium anchor and chain made to so as to comply with rules but at minimum weight! (???) /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

It is made by the same people as the Fortress as a cheaper (and less effective) alternative. I saw a Fortress FX16 (rated for up to about 40ft) at the Plymouth jumble for £45. Would have grabbed it like a shot if I didn't have 2 Fortresses already.

Yes - got one from new, many years ago (prob about 6) Seems to work OK. I only use it as a lunchtime hook because I'm not confident of a Danforth design's ability to re bed after a tide change. Was produced in the UK as an alternative to the then just introduced Fortress and was certainly not the same maker.

No reason to think it performs any different to any other aluminium Danforth. Funny how national tests usually suppoprt national anchors isnt it?
