Searched for a good bulkhead compass and decided on a Plastimo Contest 101, only to be told when I tried to order that they were out of stock as Plastimo had gone into recievership.

Any recomendations please for suitable compass.

I have an inclined bulkhead so I am assuming this limits the options.

Thanks

Steve

Contest compasses are good and last a long time if looked after. Might be worth buying one of the last. There are one or two on e-bay. It's not their fault Plastimo went bust! My Contest 100 got a cosmetic overhaul this year and a new cover. It looks as good as new!

Managed to find a supplier who has one in stock, that is the inclined version.

I asked about the warranty and was told it was causing them a problem

So do I take a chance and buy the contest 101 and hope it lasts or do I buy a Ritchie one and only sail in a northerly direction.

Thanks for the replies.

I know people will say this is a glib statement but, being realistic, what's likely to go wrong with a bulkhead compass during the warranty period?

Spoke to a nice lady from Force4 who said that that the warranty was their responsibility as the purchase contract was with them.

This I knew but was reasuring before I purchased from them which I did.

She confirmed that information via their head office and also rang a french company (name now escapes me) and they will be taking on the product range, not sure to what extent but she said spare parts would be available again so if I had a problem they would be able to deal with it.

Yes PVB point taken, not a lot to go wrong.

It makes sense if you have dual wheels, otherwise I don't know.

Normally one on each bulkhead so that if you are steering with a stick the person on the helm is not looking across the cockpit but can look at the compass on the weather side and should be more able to steer the correct course.

"Steering with a stick"? Whatever next? ;)
