I have just dismantled raw water pump on Bukh DV20 ready to replace lip seals. This is an old style pump with plain shaft bearing.

Between the two seals are two stainless washers, ID about 1mm more than shaft dia, OD about 0.5mm less than lip seal od, thickness of each is about 1.5mm.

My manual shows an O-ring rather than washers. Any ideas about which is correct?

I would like to get the pump assembled and fitted before Tuesday, otherwise I would have rung Bukh.

(Previous owner was a bit of a bodger).

Thanks

Ian

Hello, my DV10 has O rings between the seals. There is a firm on Ebay called Marine and Leisure supplies that does Bukh spares.
Good Luck. Cheers, Chris W.

My original pump had the impeller located by a grub screw through the shaft and nothing between the lip seals; you had to withdraw the shaft to change the impeller. When I got a replacement shaft from Bukh it came with a slot rather than a hole for the impeller grub screw (meaning that the impeller could be changed without disturbing the shaft), and in addition to the lip seals Bukh supplied a circlip to go between them, presumably to stop the shaft being pulled out of the seals when changing the impeller.
