Bukh DV 24 ME throttle with single lever control does not seem to push throttle lever on engine far enough to make it idle, has to be manually returned to stop in order for stop solenoid to work. Is there a way of adjusting cable to compensate?

The normal Morse type control has terminals threaded on to the ends of the cable. These can be adjusted to allow for small variations in the control set up. They should be at least 3 turns in, but I have seen them run happily with less! There is a small locknut which should be slackened, and the end fitting on the control cable can be screwed in or out. Screw it out to give a longer movement.

[/ QUOTE ]Not quite correct! Adjusting the end fittings will not increase or decrease the length of movement. The length of movement is controlled by the mechanism within the lever unit - NOT by the cable length.

First the OP should check the tightness of the govenor arm and adjust as necessary. For remote control type operation this should be 9.9lbs force at the outer hole in the arm.

The govenor arm can then be set to the correct position.

Next the operation and adjustment of the stop solonoid should be checked and adjusted as necessary. Irrespective of where the "throttle" is set the engine should / will stop when the stop solonoid is activated, if it is correctly adjusted.

Once the above checks / adjustments have been made the Morse / Teleflex cable can be connected and adjusted.

From the original description of the problem I would suspect the tightness of the govenor arm is too high, the stop solonoid is out of adjustment, the connection of the outer sleeve of the control cable to the govenor quadrant is loose, the control cable is out of adjustment or the cable head is badly worn (or a combination of the above).

Wear in the Morse/Teleflex head can seriously reduce the amount of cable travel - this also should be checked and rectified as necessary.

Section G of the Bukh workshop manual explains the workings of the manual govenor ("throttle"?)and how to adjust the tightness. I would suggest the OP obtains a copy of the Bukh workshop manual before "fiddling" with the engine.

Thank,s for the advise, I was down at the boat today and looked at the linkage at the engine end, no locking nut but a spring type clip which when removed gave access to a pin, on removal I was able to screw the linkage out a few turns so that it now extends to the stop. Perfect, now got tickover and stop solenoid works as well.

Check you can get full throttle and do check the tightness of the arm - a 5 min job and if properly set can make a tremendous difference to the operation / feel of the "throttle"
