There have been several posts suggesting that the Bukh engine be set at so many revs to eliminate one thing or another. Apart from counting the number of times the flywheel rotates in a second !!?? how can one measure the rpm?

happy days

You can borrow/hire?/buy a rev counter that you hold onto the centre of the crankshaft where it comes out of the flywheel. I bought mine from a secondhand toolshop. Mine is mechanical but there are now electronic ones available.
Or you could fit the BUKH rev counter option [ Contact BUKH for details] if you want one permanently installed.

There was a short item on coverting a bicycle speedo into a rev counter in one of the yachting magazines recently. I have bought one for £5 and will fit it in the winter but have since lost the article. It should not be too difficult to calaulate the necessary setting from scratch with the aid of the instruction which have come with the speedo.
