Bukh paint

I repainted mine several years ago with Hammerite Red Gloss over Hammerite primer and it has lasted very well. My BUKH engine never gets very hot, being seawater cooled.

I swallowed hard, several times, and forked out for a tin of the proper Bukh paint! A painful experience financially, but it does go a very long way and should last for many years thank goodness!!

The proper stuff is Danish, Dyrup Dyrups or similar in red of course! Bukh GB would have it. If you aren't fussy about the colour ( and the purists would not approve) engine paint from Halfords would do it. However, a non-approved colour for the engine may affect buyer perception when you come to sell the boat,

While on the subject, have some Bukh paint and a brush all ready to go but worried about preparation, have an area that is bare metal. Should I prime it first, or what.

I put the same question to the UK Bukh guys. They advised not necessary to prime. Just abraid lightly to key surface and surrounding paint. Apply thin coat and leave 24hrs between coats. On bare patch I applied four coats.

Yep, that's what they told me, and it works well, at least with the Bukh paint. I do however, tend to use a degreaser (Gunk or similar) before sanding etc.
