very sorry but i did tell you it wasnt my engine as i was telling my mate about the answers received he butted in Oh Kieron i am Sorry its a Bukh not Sabb So once again same question different gearbox .it is nit the lijage as he has tried direct on the box itself Thanks once again Kieron

I have just had the same problem and the resolve was the control cables. In my case stuck in astern gear. My boat has duel inside and outside controls and it was a nightmare to fix ( fortunately a friend fixed it for me as I was at the stage of drilling holes in the bottom of the boat ). The engineers in the marina had given up on the job also. My friend Allan who is extremely ternatous would not be beaten and after many hours of work and replacing the outside control and one of the outside cables resolved the problem.
Strip and clean the whole damn lot take out and clean the governor check and clean the control leaver.

FYI a complete refurbishment kit is available from ASAP supplies. I had mine done last autumn and it runs sweet as a sweet thing. The main issue is getting hold of an appropriate puller to get parts off the shafts.
