Had a little excitement at the weekend, we were lazily bobbing along when smoke came pouring up from below. Quickly identified the culprit as the stop solenoid - the key had been left in the stop position and it self-immolated but surprisingly after letting it cool down and giving it a few encouraging thumps it let us restart the engine, but refuses to stop it again. So......some questions:

Is the solenoid the same as on the DV20 as described in earlier threads on this very subject? Does it simply unscrew from the pump having loosened the locknut (I didn't have a spanner with me that was the right size to attempt it at the time)? Has anyone found a sensibly priced replacement or do I go for a manual arrangement, which is probably a better idea in any case.

I had similar event. Check your oil pressure alarm is working, it should have sounded soon after the engine was stopped if the key is left in the stop position.

I got a second hand replacement from Marine Enterprises. They have a warehouse full of spares from dismantled engines.

Not cheap though, but much less than a new one,if you could get one.

Thanls for the responses, I'll ring Marine Ent in the morning. The ebay example looks to have a smaller spindle than on mine but I'll check that out too.
