Merry Christmas.

Does anyone know if the Bukh 20 stop solenoid is the same solenoid as fitted to the DV24 engine? Or even the Bukh 10 engine? I've been told the entire DV range use the same components, is this true?

And a long shot, has anyone got one (a working one!) they'd sell me?

Cheers, Brian.

DV10 and DV20/24 stop magnets are different however the difference is in the stop pin - the magnet (solenoid etc) are the same but the complete units are NOT directly interchangeable.

Part No
000E2919 - Stop pin DV10
000E2923 - Stop pin DV20
031D0702 - Stop solenoid - DV10 - complete assembly
032D0702 - Stop solenoid - DV20 - complete assembly
612E0060 - Stop solenoid - coil only DV10 from engine number 89157 and DV20 from engine number 93638.

Stop solenoid for DV24 interchangeable with DV 20.

Secondhand solenoids (working ones) are like rocking horse shit - very scarce and difficult to find - those that are available tend to be over priced - better buy a new one - available form your local diesel engine factor - I cant remember the one to ask for but a little googling should bring it up.

BTW when changing the assembly you need to set the clearances up VERY carefully - suggest you obtain the relevant workshop manual and follow the instructions for resetting the stop solenoid.

Found it - Bosch part number 0330 101 024 - cheaper from a commercial diesel part supplier than any marine bit supplier

Hi Brian,

Its the same solenoid on both the DV10 and DV20*. I am not certain whether the DV24 is the same as this, but think it probably is. I am sure BUKH UK or T.S. Norris would be able to advise (and flog you one!).

Oops. Too slow! And wrong as well?

*T.S. Norris list the same one for the DV10 and DV20 - see price list http://www.tnorrismarine.co.uk/documents/Bukhprice1.7.12xl.pdf

Nope - not wrong - same solenoid (coil only) but different stop pins hence complete assembly is different although the coils are the same - see my post above.

If in Scotland then Dingbro. They sell alternatives even cheaper...Probably

Remember that the stop solenoid when in the run position is what positions the fuel rack for starting and also limiting fuel for starting. If too far into the engine then it may be difficult to start and not far enough in then the engine may smoke excessively when under acceleration. Need to find the happy medium. Check the new one against the one removed .

Details of how to set up the stop solenoid are contained in the workshop manual.

Thanks to all 3 forumites. I'll take Cliffs advice and go for a complete new assembly, better safe than sorry! I'll also read up about correct installation and tolerances etc.

Cheers, Brian.
