I know this subject has been discussed several times but having just done a filter comparison on the Fram (U.S.) website I find that they list their PH3614 as a replacement for the Bukh 610 J 0050 filter.
I've seen other Fram filters quoted for the Bukh including PH966B, PH46, PH2964 and PH2992 but does anyone know how significant the differences are between these filters?

I don't know the difference in quality but I buy FRAM PH46, or more accurtaely another generic equivalent at about £3 each (providing I buy 5 at a time) from my local motor factor ( who also sells CAV filters at £1 each , again minimum order 5) and change the filter and oil twice a year.

My view is that if the generic equivalents which he sells many thousands of are good enough for my high spec modern car diesel engine and my wife's even higher spec car diesel engine ( 1400cc and 90 bhp) they are probably good enough for the Bukh designed 35 years ago and built 25 years ago!

I've used all these equivalents over the years with no problems, changing oil and filters twice a year:
Bukh 610J0050, Crosland 573, Cooper Z25, Mann W 712/4.
