Bukh DV20 air filter

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to clean the airfilter on a Bukh DV20ME?

I believe the correct way is to wash it in petrol or paraffin, dry it then lightly oil the mesh with engine oil so that dirt sticks to it.

Thanks for the feedback … but how do you get access to the side exposed to the air in order to clean it thoroughly and oil it when it appears to be a sealed unit and the only access is from the underside?

Sorry, got the manual back from the boat today, and all it says is 'renew the air filter every 300 hours'. Mine, it turns out has a non standard washable filter on it, not supplied by Bukh.
