BUKH DV10 - thickness of head gasket

I do remember making gaskets for all sorts of things in the past for car maintenance, but not head gaskets.

The one thing you need to establish is the fact that the compression force is sealed between head and block.

I'd sacrifice the extra cash in providing a 'possibly' more trustworthy gasket.

Have fun! :)

Why should one not make a head gasket? If that is what one wishes to do.

What point are you trying to make?

Scott trade wind answered your question very well. With something as crucial as a head gasket, get it wrong and you can potentially wreck the engine, and it's easy to get it wrong. Some things you cant scrimp on. I guess that is my point, but you knew that anyway.

Have you looked at the video I posted? The guy makes it look easy but I can imagine what the first one he made looked like. I'm lucky, I had a spare one with my engine but, if I didn't, I'd buy one.

Yes, I watched the video, great skill there gained over many years I would guess, but I would imagine there we quite a few attempts put in the scrap bin before he perfected that, for a one off, to me it makes sense to buy a ready made gasket.
