I haven't bopught one but I have bought at least 30 items on eBay and I have never had a bad buy. I do look carefully at the track record, feedback, of the seller and in this case see they have 1366 transactions and 100% positive feedback . Their "shop" looks to be well organised and I would not hesitate to buy off them.
I think good feedback is the key. I've bought cars off ebay in the past, but from people with good feedback, who clearly trade there and want to maintain their good feedback. My thinking is, they wouldn't sell rubbish and potentially lose their ebay business.
Looking at that guy with over 1300 sales, and 100% positive feedback, I'd be very happy to buy from him/her. Just my opinion, of course.
The feedback system is so good. Wouldn't it be great if all shops had what their customers thought of them for everyone to see?
I too would have no qualms buying from your e-bay source but I notice that this starter motor has to be mounted upside down, which on my DV10ME would make it a non-starter(sorry)
If a rebuild is an option then I can highly recommend these people who ,when I took my alternator in for exchange, found that they were temporarily out of stock, so they rebuilt mine overnight and I had it back the next day.
They do starters too, and since the the shaft on which the starter dog on my engine revolves, is getting corroded and preventing the cog engaging without regular lubrication, I guess that they may well be getting mine next winter
I would agree with the above comments about trading with this guy. If in doubt look at the feedback if there is some negative, quite often the negative is from numpty buyers rather than poor sellers. I have had the odd thing go wrong and in every case the seller has sorted it out either by a refund or replacement. There are plenty of reputable companies use E-Bay as a low cost route to internet selling.

I see what that means now. [I thought it was just the picture image reversed]. That would probably make it useless for my DV10ME because the solenoid would be inaccessible and it might even be in the way of the oil filter.
I have emailed the repair firm you recommended. See what sort of price they come up with for an exchange unit.
