Bukh 24 disaster

Just ran the engine up today after which the bilges were full of lub oil and engine compartment awash with oil . It looks like the steel pipe from the starboard side just under the starter motor up to the front of the block/head is corroded / fractured. Havent had a good inspection but cant think of where else it could have come from . Presume if the crankcase seal had gone it would just dribble out and not be flung all over the fwd end of the engine and compartment . Anyone any experience of this problem on a Bukh ?? I know yan GM10 have a similar problem /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: Bukh 24 disaster

Probably not done too much damage unless it actually seized up. Check also - did you change the oil filter? If so has it seated properly - a very common cause of major oil loss at re-comissioning time.

Cheers for your reply . still oil on the dip stick so things seem ok in that area and I checked around the filter that bone dry as is the engine aft of about 3" back from the flywheel . It appears to be only around the front of the engine and occured faily quickly -- within half an hour of running .---- Now if only I can download the workshop manual .

Re: Bukh 24 disaster

I recently had to replace this pipe on my Yanmar.
The replacement may well be brass/bronze.

Re: Bukh 24 disaster

Hi, I have the workshop manual for the Bukh 20 though now have a 24hp. As far as I can see, that section is identical.

If you don't manage to get another copy or download the manual (I don't think it's available at present) and can PM me your email address, I'll have a go at sending it to you.

Cheers Jerry
